Admittedly, we don’t get to hear much of her voice in the trailer, apart from at the very end, but it seems as though Kristen has captured something of Diana’s essential inner quality in the face of the life-changing decision as to whether or not leave her husband. Set over a period of a few days during 1992 Christmas vacation at Sandringham, the movie’s focus is Diana and Prince Charles’ crumbling relationship. Set to a choral cover of Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’, the trailer opens with lavish preparations underway at the Sandringham Estate ahead of the royal family’s arrival. We see the opulent dinner table being set and Diana’s richly textured outfits being unpacked by staff, bearing tags that say things like ‘Christmas Day Lunch.’ We also see Diana attending church with the royals on Christmas morning—traditionally, the family walks to the small church on the Sandringham Estate where they are greeted by members of the public and the press. Diana, however, flinches in the glare of lightbulbs. Another shot has a harried princess hurrying down the corridor in a glittering white ballgown, while in another she poses for a family portrait in front of a Christmas tree in the drawing-room of Sandringham House. Among the subjects of the photograph are her sons Prince William and Prince Harryand her mother-in-law Queen Elizabeth II, as well as Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. The most dramatic moment in the trailer comes when Diana—in a very ’80s banana-yellow outfit—runs desperately across a field. Spencer is directed by Pablo Larrain, who previously directed 2017’s Jackie. The movie’s tagline is ‘Every fairytale ends.’ A poster released yesterday depicts Kristen as Diana turning from the camera and burying her face in her sparkly ballgown. It premieres this weekend at the Venice Film Festival. Next up, Meghan Markle Wore Two New Diamond Necklaces That Represent Archie and Lili’s Star Signs
