Cabello was quick to recognize the tune, and even questioned whether or not her ex-boyfriend was standing up on the very stage behind her. “Is that my… Is that Shawn up there?” she asked her fellow coaches. “I thought that was Shawn,” she said looking over at Gwen Stefani.Howe eventually convinced three of the judges to turn their chairs, Stefani, Blake Shelton and John Legend, and while Cabello didn’t turn, she later confronted him, noting: “I was like, is Shawn on stage right now?” Howe then responded, “wow, wow! You know him best so that’s awesome!” to which she jokingly replied, “I know him better than anybody in this room.” She went on to explain why she didn’t turn around for Howe: “I felt like you sounded a little too much like him. Obviously, he has an amazing voice, I love this song, but I would be curious when you pick your coach, for you to just kind of distinguish yourself.“The contestant went on to say that he appreciated the critique, explaining, “I see myself in that lane,” referring to Mendes, adding, “But I totally love what you’re saying, thank you!” “I was in his lane…deeply,” Camila quipped as her fellow coaches laughed. “She’s trying to make it as awkward as possible,” Legend jokingly added. After going back and forth with the judges, Howe ultimately chose to be a part of team Stefani. The “Sweet Escape Singer” was ecstatic when he chose her as a mentor, noting, “I won, I beat John and I beat Blake.” You can watch Howe’s full audition below!
