On June 4, Banes was crossing the street in Manhattan, near Juilliard, her alma mater, when she was mowed down by a scooter. According to police, the scooter rider rode through a red light as Banes was crossing the street near Lincoln Center. Banes suffered severe head trauma. So far, no one has been arrested and police are still investigating the accident. Since the accident, Banes had been in critical condition at Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital. “We have several days ahead of us to pray for Lisa,” her wife, Kathryn Kranhold said after the accident. “If anyone has any information about the scooter driver, we ask them to please call police.” Born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, in the 1980s, Banes made a big splash in the film Cocktail playing Tom Cruise’s girlfriend.
