The Today show weather anchor—who was hospitalized last month due to ongoing health issues—gave his fans an update on Dec. 8, revealing that he hopes to be discharged sometime soon. In his new Instagram post, the 68-year-old shared a dreamy photo of the sunrise on Thursday morning, alongside an encouraging update about his current hospital stay. “Hopefully coming home soon,” Roker captioned his post. “But when your spirit sags a bit, you get to see that and recharge,” he said of the bright orange sunset in the photo. “God Bless you all for the prayers and well wishes for me and my family.” “See you soon Al,” Jim Cantore, a meteorologist for The Weather Channel, commented on Thursday’s post, while other colleagues, including The Weather Channel’s Stephanie Abrams, and Fox Weather’s Amy Freeze, also flocked to the comments to wish Roker a speedy recovery. As Parade reported, Roker first filled in his fans on the situation in mid-November, after he was noticeably absent from his slot on the Today show. At the time, he explained that had been in the hospital receiving treatment for blood clots in his leg and lungs. The hospitalization caused him to miss the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade the following week—his first time not hosting the event in 27 years. The TV personality ended up being discharged on Thanksgiving Day, telling his Instagram followers that he was thankful to be able to celebrate the holiday at home with his family. However, less than 24 hours later, Roker was rushed back to the hospital after an ambulance was called to his Upper East Side home the day after Thanksgiving. Witnesses previously stated that the weatherman’s condition was “worrying” at the time, but “once back in the hospital, he improved.” His wife, Deborah Roberts, was also reported to be “frantic” while her husband was being taken back to the hospital, as she was seen trying to break into their locked Tesla to retrieve her cell phone. “His wife, Deborah, was understandably very upset,” an eyewitness previously explained. “She had left her phone and other possessions inside their Tesla, which had malfunctioned and wouldn’t unlock, so she was trying to smash in a window.” After Roberts—a fellow journalist who works for ABC—was “unsuccessful” in getting the car unlocked, she “then went to the hospital by taxi with her daughter, where Al has since been surrounded by his family.” Hopefully Roker will be back home and in good health again soon.
