On the show’s penultimate episode last week, Charles was about to fly off on an exotic vacation with his mean-girl girlfriend, Quinn (LauraBenanti), but those plans got derailed when his ex-wife, Pauline (JenniferWestfeldt)—who apparently ships Liza and Charles—hid his passport. Liza came to the rescue, arriving at the airport with passport in hand, telling Charles goodbye forever and saying that she wishes him “every happiness, from the bottom of my heart, truly.” That’s when Charles finally came to his senses, leaving Quinn behind to tell Liza, “I was with the wrong person.” Cue a big, ol’ kiss! So what does all that mean for the finale and for the fate of Liza and Charles? Here’s what we know so far.
What happens at the end of Younger?
With Liza and Charles seemingly happily reunited now, the big question may be whether any additional romantic roadblocks will crop up that might break them apart again. A trailer for the final episode offers little in the way of clues; instead, there’s a shot of Liza and Charles in bed together and some hopeful sentiments like, “Sometimes life gives you a second chance.” However, there is at least one hint of a possible glitch: After Charles tells Liza in bed, “Only the truth from now on, even if it hurts,” there’s a shot of Liza looking like she just heard something shocking and dropping her phone. Another potential hurdle? The fate of Inkubator, the startup that Liza founded with Kelsey (Hilary Duff). In the most recent episode, after Charles left Quinn to go off on their romantic getaway without him, she’s seen loading up some venture capital documents about Inkubator and appears to contemplate buying Liza and Kelsey’s pet project—and perhaps finding yet another way to upend Liza’s life.
Does Liza end up with Charles on Younger?
Despite all the challenges they may face in the finale, all signs still seem to point to yes. During his big, romantic confession at the airport, Charles told Liza that he wants to be with her whether or not they tie the knot—even though her reluctance to get married again was the very reason they broke up at the start of this season. Meanwhile, back in April, The New York Times reported that Foster and Hermann’s final scene together was shot at 5 a.m. outside Manhattan’s Bowery Ballroom, and that it featured just the two of them, suggesting a major romantic moment…. Or maybe one more breakup? “It was just the two of us, and we looked around on the sidewalk, and there were our writers and our crew and our director, with the garbage trucks rumbling by,” Hermann told the outlet. “We were so happy and so sad and so deeply grateful.”
Does Liza end up with Josh on Younger?
For anyone still pining for a Liza-Josh romantic reunion, you could take one clip from the finale teaser as a sign that they might get back together, although it’s a stretch. At one point, Josh (NicoTortorella) offers up his Brooklyn pad to Kelsey, who then asks, “Where are you gonna go?” Josh’s reply isn’t shown, but Kelsey’s reaction to it is. “What?!” she cries out in disbelief. Could Josh be choosing to make one more play for Liza before it’s all over?
