New pics of the princess were released on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s Instagram account to mark the occasion. Her hair has gotten so long—and she’s missing one of her baby teeth! All three snaps, which were taken by her mother, capture Charlotte sitting in a field of bluebells. In one she has her arm around the family’s dog, a cocker spaniel called Orla. Three-year-old Orla is a cocker spaniel who was bred by Kate’s brotherJames Middleton. Her predecessor, Lupo, sadly died in November 2020. The sad news was announced by the Cambridges on Instagram, who wrote, “Very sadly last weekend our dear dog, Lupo, passed away. He has been at the heart of our family for the past nine years and we will miss him so much.” This is the first photo that William and Kate have released of their new pet. The name Orla is derived from the ancient Irish name Órfhlaith, which means “golden princess.” Charlotte’s full name is Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge, and she was born on May 2, 2015. She is fourth in line to the British throne after her grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William, and older brother Prince George. She made history on the occasion of her birth, as she was the first female heir to the throne who would not have to move down the line of succession in favor of any male heir that might be born after her. Her younger brother Prince Louis turned 4 just over a week ago—see his own cute birthday portraits here. The last time Charlotte made a public appearance was alongside George at Easter service alongside their parents. All three Cambridge children are expected to be seen out and about during their great-grandmotherQueen Elizabeth II’s platinum jubilee celebrations in June.
