In the “Never Say Never” episode that aired, appropriately, on Mother’s Day, Rosemary’s stomach bug turned out to be something much different when she learned she might be pregnant with the couple’s first child. It’s been a long time coming for Lee and Rosemary, who married in the middle of season 3 of the popular Hallmark Channel series. The two had struggled to start a family and at one point it looked like they might even adopt, especially when sisters Lillian (Morgan Kohan) and Grace (Jocelyn Hudon) came into town with their makeshift orphanage of kids on their way to settle in Brookfield. The Coulters would even later visit Brookfield to help rebuild structures destroyed in a fire on When Hope Calls, a spinoff series of When Calls the Heart. I spoke with Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith during season 7 and they mentioned the show would address the Coulters’ fertility issues by the end of season 8 (before there was an official season 8 renewal). Luckily for them and Hallmark Channel, I can keep a secret. Season 8 came and went with no news of the Coulters expanding their family and it seemed the storyline had all but disappeared until fans were treated with the delightful surprise. It appeared the loving couple had resigned themselves to being a childless family of two. With nary a mention of late of expanding their family, viewers were hit with a Boom! when Rosemary finds herself uncharacteristically speechless after she learns she may be with child.
Is Rosemary really pregnant?
It looks like she is! As Rosemary isn’t able to run over to Yost’s Merchantile or the pharmacy for a pregnancy test (they weren’t invented until the 1960s), viewers and the Coulters will have to wait and see.
How far along in the pregnancy is Rosemary?
From the looks of it, Rosemary appears to be in her first trimester (or thereabouts) of the pregnancy.
Will Rosemary have a boy or a girl on When Calls the Heart?
Your guess is as good as ours! There were no ultrasounds back in those days, but we’re pretty sure there’s a 50-50 chance it will be one or the other!
Who’s the father of Rosemary’s baby on When Calls the Heart?
This isn’t Lifetime, folks. The father is Rosemary’s husband, Lee Coulter.
When will Rosemary give birth?
Rosemary probably won’t give birth until season 10 and depending on where the show picks up from the events of season 9 finale, she may have well, given birth by the season premiere!
So, is Parade.com saying there will be a season 10 of When Calls the Heart?
While there is still no official pickup of season 10 or beyond of When Calls the Heart, we can’t imagine there won’t be! Looks like there will be a few cliffhangers by the time the season finale airs and Hearties would certainly be in an uproar if there isn’t another season!
Who knows about Rosemary’s baby?
Rosemary wants to keep the news from Lee until she’s certain, but Rosemary had to tell someone. Of course, Faith (Andrea Brooks) knows, as she was the one to first suspect Rosemary was pregnant. Rosemary later confides in Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) over the possibility of her being pregnant and practically spills the beans to Joseph (VivLeacock) when she gets a craving for his ooey gooey butter cake. At this rate, everyone in town will learn of the pregnancy before Lee does!
What does this mean for Hope Valley and the production of When Calls the Heart?
It means there’s one more citizen to add to the Hope Valley census! It also means that eventually there will be more schoolchildren for Elizabeth to teach. With some of the older kids finishing school and heading off to college or new adventures of their own, new schoolchildren will be entering the classroom in the years to come. As for the production, look for a new pair of twins to grace the set. With Baby Jack now a toddler and played by a single actor, Hyland Goodrich, instead of twins (Gunnar and Lincoln Taylor), it’ll likely be easier to wrangle one set of twins instead of two. Once Baby Coulter is introduced, we’ll probably only catch glimpses of him/her from time to time in the beginning as babies need plenty of sleep!
What will Rosemary and Lee name Baby Coulter on When Calls the Heart?
Your guess is as good as ours though I think Connie Coulter would fit for either a boy or a girl (Connie was a popular boy’s name back in that era), don’t you?
