The home decor mogul, 80, announced the death of six of her pet peacocks Saturday after coyotes attacked them “in broad daylight,” posting a throwback video on Instagram in remembrance. The snippet, set to the tune of “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye, showcased one of the birds train rattling its feathers. “RIP beautiful BlueBoy. The coyotes came in broad daylight and devoured him and five others including the magnificent White Boy,” Stewart captioned the post. She continued, enlisting advice on her wild dog situation. “Any solutions for getting rid of six large and aggressive coyotes who have expensive tastes when it comes to poultry??” Stewart previously revealed that she had 21 of these “glorious birds” on Twitter last May, after refuting The New York Post’s wrongly reported news that she only had 16, stating that their “house is impeccable. They do not smell. They are so clean! Their voices are loud but such fun to hear. They are so friendly.” After the recent attack, she shared she is “no longer allowing the peafowl out of their yard,” noting that the top of the birds’ yard will be enclosed with wire fencing going forward. Though not the best news, she ended the mournful post on a light-hearted note, adding, “by the way i do not have any idea how the marvin gaye music found it’s way. to this sad post but when Blue Boy was alive it would have been perfectly appropriate.” In July 2020, she wrote of her peafowl on The Martha Stewart blog: “I visit these beautiful birds every day. I love calling out to them and waiting for their energetic responses. My peacocks are doing exceptionally well and remain active, curious, and very, very vocal.” This isn’t the first time the animal-lover has had to bury deceased pets, as the 2022 Puppy Bowl co-host suffered another disheartening loss in April when her cat Princess Peony was killed by four of her dogs. “Burying the beautiful and unusual Princess Peony. The four dogs mistook her for an interloper and killed her defenseless little self. I will miss her very badly.
