The statement from the palace said that Prince Philip’s admission is a “precautionary measure” following the advice of his doctor. It added that the duke’s stay is likely to last a few days. The Guardian reports that Philip was visited by a doctor at Windsor Castle, where he and Queen Elizabeth II have been isolating for much of the COVID-19 pandemic, and afterward traveled to King Edward VII hospital in London by car. He apparently walked into the hospital unaided, and according to a source the illness is not related to COVID. In January the queen and Philip received the first dose of their COVID vaccinations, but it hasn’t been reported whether or not they have yet received their second jabs. Philip was admitted to the hospital a number of times during the last decade, the most recent being in December 2019 when he spent four nights in the aforementioned hospital and was treated for a pre-existing condition.
