The actress shared two snaps of the longtime pals embraced in a loving hug alongside a very sentimental message on Nov. 21 via Instagram. The first photo was a selfie of Gellar, 45, and Fraser, 53, leaning on each other—as true friends do! And given the angle of the second image, we can only guess they convinced someone else to take the picture for them as the two wrapped their arms around each other. “It’s no secret that I have loved Brendan Fraser for a long time,” she wrote, noting, “And, I have always known he that is one of the greatest actors ever.” The duo co-starred in Jieho Lee’s crime drama, The Air I Breathe, back in 2007 alongside Kevin Bacon, Forest Whitaker, Julie Delpy, and Jon Bernthal. Gellar’s caption continued: “This week I had the honor to see his performance in @thewhalemov and as you might be able to guess from my tear stained face in these pics, I was blown away. Brendan’s performance is a gift to all of us. Those who know me, know I am never at a loss for words, but this movie rendered me utterly speechless.” She concluded the post by pleading with fans, “Please see this movie.” The film is an adaptation of Samuel D. Hunter’s 2012 play of the same name. Directed by Darren Aronofsky–who previously directed Mother! (2017), Noah (2014), Black Swan (2010), and many others. The Whale stars Fraser as Charlie, an English teacher who suffers from an eating disorder while attempting to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter, Ellie (played by Stranger Things star Sadie Sink). It also features stars like Hong Chau, Samantha Morton, and Ty Simpkins. The Whale is set to release in select theaters on Dec. 9. Fraser is also set to appear in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, which is rumored to hit screens sometime in May 2023. Fans have dubbed this the “Brenaissance,” and we’re here for it!
