This year, Shark Week will take viewers to new locations from the Exuma Islands in the Bahamas to Papua New Guinea, and will also spotlight innovative shark technology. Discovery shared that “fans can expect 25 adrenaline-inducing original episodes that deliver never-seen footage of walking sharks, awe-inspiring breaches and more shocking predations captured on-camera by dedicated science and research field teams.” And as in previous years, the sharks won’t be the only stars appearing onscreen. Stranger Things’ Noah Schnapp and Tracy Morgan are among Shark Week 2022’s celebrity guests. Who is the Shark Week 2022 master of ceremonies?
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been tapped as Shark Week’s first Master of Ceremonies.” Taking to his Instagram on July 11, The Rock wrote, “Honored to be your first ever @SharkWeek MASTER OF CEREMONIES. Our @SevenBucksProd has partnered with @Discovery to bring you a VERY SPECIAL (and bad ass;) SHARK WEEK. I filmed exclusively in my home state of HAWAII, these beautiful predator AUMAKUA (gods) are deeply revered & respected in our Polynesian culture.” Johnson will kick off and close the first five nights of Shark Week with a special message. The actor’s messages will highlight what viewers can expect to watch that evening, and will also connect viewers to his heritage and the importance of sharks for his culture and personal story.

While the sharks are undoubtedly the stars of the week, the TV event will feature some familiar famous faces (in addition to The Rock). Will there be shark content on Discovery before and after Shark Week?
Although the highly anticipated TV event of the summer starts on July 24, there will be shark specials premiering exclusively on discovery+ beforehand: Dawn of the Monster Mako and The Haunting of Shark Tower premiere Friday, July 15, and Great White Intersection (wt) on Saturday, July 23. Shark-loving fans will also be able to listen to shark content on podcast apps. Shark Week: The Podcast debuts on Saturday, July 18.
