Season 7 of Outlander will be based on the seventh novel in bestselling author Diana Gabaldon’s series of books, titled An Echo in the Bone, and will pick up where season 6 left off with Claire’s (Caitríona Balfe) arrest for the murder of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds) and her forced removal from the Fraser’s Ridge by members of Richard Brown’s (Chris Larkin) Committee of Safety brigade, while Jamie (Sam Heughan) was almost shanghaied to parts unknown, until he was rescued by Ian, Chief Bird (Glen Gould), John Quincy Myers (Kyle Rees) and a band of a few other brothers and then went on a search to locate the imprisoned Claire. In the trailer, we see Claire with a noose around her neck, so is it Jamie that rescues her or is it a declaration by Tom Christie (Mark Lewis Jones) that stops the execution? In the books, he claims responsibility for his daughter’s murder even though he’s innocent, but will it be the same in the series? Other moments include a glimpse of the fire at the big house that Brianna (Sophie Skelton) traveled to the past to warn her parents about, the Declaration of Independence being posted, Brianna giving birth, and a funeral procession. Season 7 will see the return of the main cast, including Heughan as Jamie Fraser, Balfe as Claire Fraser, Skelton as Brianna MacKenzie, Richard Rankin as Roger MacKenzie, John Bell as Young Ian, David Berry as Lord John Grey, Caitlin O’Ryan as Lizzie Beardsley, and Paul Gorman as twins Josiah and Keziah Beardsley. Newcomers will include Charles Vandervaart as William Ransom, Jamie’s illegitimate son; Izzy Meikle-Small as Rachel Hunter; and Joey Phillips as Denzell Hunter. Outlander, which has been filming in Scotland since last April, has yet to be picked up for its eighth season by STARZ, but when it renewed the series for season 7, the network sounded as if they were in the Outlander business until they run out of books by Gabaldon.
