In between songs, a man wearing a white coat handed Healy, the only band member on stage at the time, a plate of raw meat, and the 33-year-old started eating it. After a few substantial bites, Healy did some push-ups and climbed through a television set piece. Soon after, he returned in a new outfit to perform the rest of the show. One fan, @balladofmemybrn, got the whole thing on video and shared it on Twitter, but fair warning, it might turn your stomach. While the act is likely symbolic of bigger themes explored through The 1975’s music, it still grossed a lot of people out. Reacting on social media, many fans were stunned and confused. One person tweeted, “i cant deal with this right now im going to bed.” Quite a few others thought that eating steak on stage was uncalled for, no matter why Healy and the band decided to include it in their show. “can’t think of a single 1975 song that would warrant this behaviour to be honest,” someone replied. Obviously, people were concerned about the state of Healy’s stomach after eating raw steak, with some joking that he now has worms. One fan wished him well, tweeting, “get well soon matty healy,” with a photo of Vermox, a medicine that treats intestinal worms. Apparently, some fans liked seeing Healy eat raw meat and might’ve taken it a little too far, like the fan that posted a photo of Heidi Klum’s worm Halloween costume and said, “me auditioning to be one of the worms matty healy just got:” Fans made plenty of other great jokes as well, like one person who referenced Lady Gaga’s iconic VMA meat dress, writing, “2010 VMAs lady gaga when she runs into november 7th 2022 MSG matty healy.” We’ll likely never know the real reason why Healy decided to do such a strange thing on stage, so why not have some fun with it?
