“We want to show the world that we can stand on our feet and be strong and powerful women,” one of the dancers said before they performed. Another added, “Standing on the AGT stage is our only chance to prove to the world the art we can create.” Mayyas means the proud walk of a lioness in Arabic and the ladies in the troupe did not disappoint with their performance. “There are no words to explain to you what we were feeling over here,” Sofia said immediately following the dance. “That was the most beautiful, creative dancing I have ever seen.” “You said you were going to hypnotize us,” Howie added. “When we sat here and watched the movement and the perfection and the amount of time that went into that, we were hypnotized by what you did.” Heidi complimented them, saying, “I want to thank you for giving us a little glimpse of your culture which is so beautiful. It was just stunning, and I loved all of you.” “This really, really will make a difference, full stop, in so many positive ways,” said Simon. “That’s one part, and then, arguably it was the best dance act the likes of which I have ever seen.” Then when it was time to vote, Sofia said, “I want to say something first. I would be so honored to empower you even more on this journey because you deserve it and I want to be part of this.” And so saying, she hit the Golden Buzzer, moving Mayyas directly to the Live Shows and a shot at the $1 million prize. Their choreographer Nadim Cherfan explained the group’s decision to audition for AGT, saying, “Lebanon is not a place where you can build a career out of dancing. It is really hard and harder for women. I grew up watching America’s Got Talent and I was inspired by so many people, but what really got us to audition this year was Nightbirde. She said, ‘You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore to be happy.’ Seeing the Mayyas on America’s Got Talent is the most fulfilling feeling I have ever felt.” “This is like a life-changing experience for us,” one of the dancers commented as they joyously made their way out of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. Mayyas were the winners of Arab’s Got Talent in 2019. America’s Got Talent airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. Next, Exclusive!
