Two months after Will Smith’s altercation with Chris Rock, the 50-year-old actress revealed that she hopes for “healing.” “About Oscar night. My deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile,” she said at the beginning of Wednesday’s episode of Red Table Talk titled Alopecia: The Devastating Impact. She continued: “Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years — and that’s [to] keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.” “This is a really important ‘Red Table Talk’ about alopecia,” Pinkett Smith said during the episode, adding, “Considering what I’ve been through with my health and what happened to me at the Oscars thousands of people have reached out to me about their stories.” Her comments led into an episode that dove into the personal stories of people living with, or touched by, alopecia. Pinkett Smith, who has been open about the ongoing struggle with alopecia, confirmed the diagnosis in a 2018 episode of the talk show.  Pinkett Smith’s guests included top hair surgeon Dr. Meena Singh who discussed types of alopecia along with treatments, the mother of 12-year-old Rio Allred who suffered from Alopecia and took her own life after being relentlessly bullied, and former NBC player Charlie Villanueva who discussed his hidden pain.  At the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony, Rock made a joke at Pinkett Smith‘s expense, comparing her shaved head to Demi Moore‘s in G.I. Jane, which prompted the slap heard around the world. Smith, who went on to win Best Actor for his role in “King Richard” later in the evening, was eventually banned from future ceremonies for 10 years by the Academy. He also apologized to Rock before announcing his resgination from the Academy. After the incident, Pinkett Smith refused to comment, assuring the public she would address the issue at a later time. In a statement released during the Red Table Talk season 5 premiere episode last month, Pinkett Smith wrote: “Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focusing on deep healing. Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls.” “Until then … the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest (Janelle Monáe). Thanks for joining us, Jada,” the statement concluded. Red Table Talk airs Wednesday at 12 p.m. ET on Facebook Watch. Next, find out what Will Smith said in his apology to Chris Rock.
